More Mulhouse...

And now, back by popular demand, travel photos! These are more pictures in and around Mulhouse, France.

The B&B we stayed in during our stay in Mulhouse. The owners were wonderful - we had great discussions in mixed English and French with them (throw in a little something else when having breakfast with the Belgians who were also staying there). They also treated us wonderfully - and insisted on providing a nightcap (local pear liqueur) and coffee (more like espresso) each night when we returned.

This was the view off the little balcony of our suite - we had a huge bedroom, a sitting room, a little hallway, a private bath - and of course the balcony. We enjoyed several bottles of wine out here of an evening!

Le Cheval Blanc - the White Horse - was a little tavern/restaurant about a 10 minute walk from our B&B. Amazingly good steak, for a little town (and a place that looked popular with the locals and students - there's a large university near this part of town).

Finally - this cathedral is actually in Germany, in Freiburg. Another university town, since medieval times. The streets all have canals with running water along both sides (with little ramps to get from the street to the sidewalk). Apparently the canals made it a lot easier to keep the streets clean. Now, they're mostly a neat tourist sight (and a place for little kids to splash in).

Beautiful!

And, hey, you visited before the country was on fire! Good planning! :)

Uneducated person alert: I was talking to some MBA spouses at a dinner party on Tuesday about Guy Fawkes in Britain, particularly about Bonfire Night. One person asked if French riots were related. We laughed at her because she was serious.
